DriveMate Rec is an iPhone app that records video while you drive and tracks the route driven.

Major functions

Drive recorder: Automatically records video in incidents such as traffic accidents
You can record a movie of up to ten seconds before and after an event when impact such as in sudden braking or collision is sensed or when the REC button on the screen is pressed.
Recorded video can be exported to the camera roll or put it up on YouTube on the spot.
The viewer also lets you inspect the recorded video right where you are.
You can set according to your needs acceleration at which recording starts (0.1 to 1.0 G), recording time (1 to 10 sec. before and after), and image quality (low/high quality).
Video Recorder: Mode for recording scenery and the like while driving
Press the REC button on the screen to continuously record for up to 120 minutes. The scenery captured by the camera is displayed on the screen while driving, and your vehicle’s current location, speed, and acceleration are also shown.
Recorded video can be exported to the camera roll or put it up on YouTube on the spot (up to 15 min.).
The viewer also lets you play back video of your driving along with a record of the vehicle location, speed, and acceleration.
You can set as you like automatic stop time for recording (1 to 120 min.), sound recording (on/off), and image quality (low/high).
Time Trial: Mode to save, play back, and compare tracks of routes driven
When using the Time Trial function, first track a route you often drive such as between home and work. A route preciously tracked can then be played back on the screen with the current route. Then, the next time you travel that route, you can compare in real time preciously recorded location information with the location of the vehicle being driven.

DriveMate Rec app good for
Overall its a great app! However, I cannot turn up the image quality under the setting in Drive Recorder - it wont save the setting eventhough I have turned the quality to highest. So it always record in the lowest quality. I would give it a 5 star if this is fix.

I just test it for another day. Not sure why but the Drive Recorder seems laggy (by about 1/2 a second), however, it was fine in Video Recorder. Still its a great app. I hope these can get fixed soon and make uses the full screen on iPhone 5.
I really wanted to give this product a 5-star rating, but I cant. Heres why:
The good:
- does what it says, didnt crash on my iPhone so far
- I like that it saves important info such as speed, time and location (with map included) using the GPS data
- relatively good light exposure adjustment during recording of scenes of varying light conditions - esp. night scenery
- I also got the mounting frame sold by the app maker, and the quality is very good - except the plastic fisheye lens which degrades the video quality; glass is always better!
The bad:
- most important: pushing the Home button to switch to a different application - even the double-click to get to the multitasking menu - will close the app. This has to be fixed, or a multitasking option added - maybe a dialog box asking whether to close the app or keep it active. The functionality of this app is seriously compromised for me because of this.
- music can be played from the iPhone - if started before the DriveMate app - while the Drive Recorder mode is active; however, when recording a drive in the Video Recorder mode, the music is paused automatically
- exporting a recording with location data is done by first processing the video on the iPhone - this is very slow, takes about 2 times longer than the actual recording, even on my iPhone 4S, with the A5 cpu onboard. Moreover, the map in the processed video disappears frequently, even though I can watch the same recording in-app without any glitches, so the information is actually saved, just not properly embedded in the processed video. I really hope the next update to this app will allow for external processing (on a computer) of the recordings - maybe a free Mac app to retrieve and process the recorded info from the iPhone app.
- the quality of the exported videos is much lower than the HD quality of the iPhone camera, even when exporting with the hi-quality option. If the resolution is reduced anyway, then i see no point of having to choose the quality of the export. If I choose high quality, I expect max. resolution.
Looking forward to an update that could make this app really great!
Some bad moments
This was a fantastic app until this last update. I can no longer get the screen to dim by tapping it. It only focuses like it did in older versions. Battery life is significantly reduced because the screen is constantly on. This is very annoying at night also. Please fix and receive 5 stars.
Great app for a great price!!! Great for daily use as a back up if anything happens... Even great for track use as well... Cant beat it for the price!!!
Ive used this app extensively and there are a few things this app needs. Give us an option for HD video capture in 720p or 1080p. The overlays are very low resolution. Please increase them to HD as well. Give us an option to loop the videos in segments so long trips dont use up so much data. Give us an option to dim the screen while the app is in use so we can adjust according to the time of day. After exporting the video to camera roll, the map overlay is very buggy/glitchy and sometimes blanks out during parts of the video. The map overlay on the exported video is also very slow and zooms in and out unexpectedly.
